Escape special characters (quotes, backslashes, newlines, tabs) so text can sit safely inside a JSON string — or take an escaped JSON string value and turn it back into readable text. In your browser only.
JSON string rules: " becomes \", \ becomes \, and control characters become \n, \r, \t, \b, \f or \u00XX. Forgetting the backslash rule is the classic bug: escape backslashes first, or a path like C:\new turns into a newline.
